BVVM Named Commemorative Partner in Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration
College Station, Texas — The Memorial for All Veterans of the Brazos Valley, Inc. has been named a commemorative partner in the United States Department of Defense Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. In a two-day visit to College Station and Bryan, Lt. Gen. Mick Kicklighter USA (Ret.) and Col. Mark Franklin USA (Ret.) met with members of the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial (BVVM) Board of Directors to learn more about the board’s efforts to erect the seventh and largest of the war memorials along the Lynn Stuart Pathway military history trail.
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and while conducting the commemorative program, the Secretary shall coordinate, support, and facilitate other programs and activities of the Federal Government, State and local governments, and other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War.
Recently, the BVVM launched a capital campaign to fund the Vietnam memorial at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station, Texas. To date, the fund is nearing half of their $150,000 goal. Becoming a commemorative partner will increase the awareness of the BVVM efforts to honor all of the men and women who served during the Vietnam War and who did not receive an appropriate welcome home.
The goal of the BVVM is to dedicate the Vietnam Memorial by 2015. For more information on the Vietnam War Commemoration go to www.vietnamwar50th.com. Visit www.bvvm.org for more information on the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial or to contribute to the BVVM Vietnam Memorial capital campaign.
